Four Popular Types Of Helmets

Helmet is an essential accessory for motorbike riders. In most of the countries around the world, it is compulsory for all motorcycle riders to wear helmet. Helmet offers maximum protection to the rider as it protects the head from impact.

Motorcycle buyers are confused about the type of helmet to buy as there are many varieties in helmets. The experienced salesmen at the motorbike clothing shops or motorcycle dealerships that stock riding gear, can help you choose the right size and shape of helmet that suits your requirements and style.

Generally, motorcycle helmets are available in six models. Read on to know about them.

Full face helmets

As the name suggests, these helmets cover the entire head. This is the most common type of helmet for motorcycle riders. The helmet covers the top, front and back of the head and also has a chin bar. The full face helmets are available in different designs to suit different types of motorcycles. The main disadvantage of the full face helmet is the ventilation. Since the helmet covers the entire head, it becomes uncomfortable, it is important to choose a full face helmet that has ventilation vents at the back. Also check the visor lens and prefer to buy helmets with visors that have anti-fogging and UV protection lens.

Modular helmets

The modular helmet is a full face helmet that can be converted into an open face helmet by flipping up the chin bar. However, the open face position is not recommended as it is not safe while riding at high speeds. These helmets are comparatively less safe than the full face helmets.

Open face helmets

Open face helmets are also known as ¾ helmets and popular among the scooter riders. This helmet covers the top, back and side portions of the head while the front is open. These helmets offer good ventilation as the face is not covered. However, they are not as safe as the full face helmets.

Half-helmets

Half helmets cover only the top of the head. These helmets are also known as brain buckets. These helmets are not as safe as the other helmets.

There are many other types of helmets like the off-road helmets, dual sport helmets etc. riders can visit motorbike clothing shops or riding gear shops to know more about the different types of helmets and choose the right helmet that suits their needs.
